To begin with, the exact dimensions of each room are carefully noted, along with the level of humidity that the room is expected to see. Any existing flooring is removed with care, if necessary, in order to provide for a pristine surface to lay down the new wood. The planks are positioned carefully so that they each have room to expand and contract without interrupting the integrity of the floor, and the edges are carefully matched to ensure that patterns in the wood and any differences in height are minimized.
The planks are fastened to the floor surface perpendicular to the floor joists using either glue, nails or special fasteners depending upon the type of job being done.
